Recommendation widgets
Grids of Around the web
and You may like
links at the foot of the content.

Why it matters
The end of an article is a dangerous place. The reader has what they came for and may leave. A recommendation widget gives them twelve reasons to stay, each with a photograph of a celebrity and a headline about their knees.
The links lead to other sites, which pay for the visit. The reader is, in effect, sold on to the next page, which is how they would want it.
How Outhouse measures it
Outhouse counts widget headings such as Around the web
, Promoted links
, You may like
and Recommended by
, and checks for content-recommendation networks among the domains loaded. Two or more scores in full.
This audit counts towards Ad Load, with a weight of 2. A category is 75% its two highest-scoring audits and 25% all of its audits, weighted, so a site is judged mostly on what it does most and partly on how many things it does.
