Popups covering content
Overlays that cover most of the screen until the visitor deals with them.

Why it matters
A visitor who reads without interruption is a visitor forming their own opinions. A popup restores the proper order of things: first the offer, then the content, if there is time.
The best popups appear when the visitor starts reading, again when they scroll, and once more when the cursor moves towards the address bar.
How Outhouse measures it
Outhouse counts fixed elements that cover more than 30% of the screen. One scores in full.
This audit counts towards Annoyance, with a weight of 3. A category is 75% its two highest-scoring audits and 25% all of its audits, weighted, so a site is judged mostly on what it does most and partly on how many things it does.
