App nagging
Banners and buttons insisting that the visitor would be happier in the app.
Why it matters
A website visitor can leave at any time and is protected by their browser. An app user can be notified, located and measured at leisure. Every website visit is therefore an opportunity to move the visitor somewhere better.
The phrase Open in app
should appear above the content, below the content and in a full-screen sheet that slides up as the visitor begins to read.
How Outhouse measures it
Outhouse counts phrases such as open in app
, get the app
and continue in app
, and a smart app banner tag. One scores in full.
This audit counts towards Annoyance, with a weight of 1. A category is 75% its two highest-scoring audits and 25% all of its audits, weighted, so a site is judged mostly on what it does most and partly on how many things it does.
