Push-notification service
A service that asks to send the visitor notifications after they have left.
Why it matters
Most sites let visitors go when they close the tab. This is defeatist. Push notifications let a site follow the visitor home, to their desktop and their phone, at any hour, with news it has decided they need.
The permission prompt should appear on arrival, before the visitor knows what the site is. A visitor who says no can be asked again next time, and the time after that.
How Outhouse measures it
Outhouse checks whether the page loaded a known web-push service, or whether notifications are already allowed. Either scores in full.
This audit counts towards Annoyance, with a weight of 1. A category is 75% its two highest-scoring audits and 25% all of its audits, weighted, so a site is judged mostly on what it does most and partly on how many things it does.
